DAYS 428 & 429 (4/1 & 4/2)
To those who celebrate … Happy Easter. To those who want to know about why a bunny and eggs are part of the holiday, ask me about their pagan roots.
Ya know the saying no news in good news? Well, that’s not the case at the moment.
This is the second time I’m writing this – last night I lost it all as I was posting the last picture; sp I am in a mood; this will be short. I have lots and lots to accomplish before I leave tomorrow. I am sitting in a parking lot in North Wales, PA. My left fingers are numb. I put on my happiest tie dye top from my cousin Debbie Lynn to cheer me.
The night I spent on top of a hill on a farm in Amissville, VA was windy and cold. I had no internet and no cell coverage. I did have a wonderful view of the countryside and, with my head on the pillow, the moonrise. If I turned over on my stomach, I could watch the humungous TV far away at the house. With binoculars, I could read the movie credits. But also by the house as I was trying to sleep was a vehicle with its lights on gunning its engine for what seemed like an hour. I left there with no idea how to get out of there because I still had no phone or internet.
Driving aimlessly trying to follow my intuition, I pulled over at one point to dig out my book of maps. That’s when I got a call from my daughter by another mother, Schanell. She’d seen one, two, then three black birds flapping their wings but not going anywhere, and got a message to call. I was that bird, it seems. Her suggestion to power off my phone and then turn it back on did the trick and I followed Apple maps without question. (I was also on the road I needed to be on!)
Virginia is beautiful. Parts of it reminded me of Vermont: windy roads, hills upon hills with mountains in the distance, large farms, little towns … and I can’t remember what else. happily rolling along, I eventually came to Washington DC. Although I don’t like driving in cities, it was a beautiful day and I was able to take lots of pictures because I was getting stopped at every light. As I left the city, I ended up on Maryland’s roads, which were the worse I had driven except for some places in Pennsylvania. I did a lot of cursing and screaming as the contents of the bus rearranged themselves. When I had enough, I pulled into a Cracker Barrel for the night. I had 100% solar power, so I was treating myself to a hot shower. That’s when the power cut off. Quiet. Dark. And me naked with purple color in my hair getting my body soapy. I tried all my tricks, then got help from Brett who installed the solar. He gave me some ideas, but I didn’t have the tools or the strength to remove bolts, and asked for help from the guy in a 5th wheel parked next to me. He managed to switch to another terminal, but still, nothing. I used cold drinking water to wash the purple out of my hair … the soap had pretty much been absorbed by the clothes I had put back on. That night got down to 37 degrees.
The next morning, the sun was up and the power was working as if nothing had happened.
I didn’t ask questions, I just took off for my next destination, and the adventures yet to come. I will catch you up as soon as possible.
Thank you for following along.
