June 29: Beaches Make For Better Days
I spent the last two nights in the wild – by a canal and in the woods near a beach. There’s something about being by water and being in the middle of nowhere that soothes my soul. I also finally got my feet in Lake Michigan. (Actually, it was Horseshoe Bay in Egg Harbor Wisconsin.) It was the third beach I went to today. The first there was nowhere to park a car, let alone a bus, and the second one was at a Coast Guard station that was not open to the public. I did get to see three lighthouses there, though. And at Frank Murphy Park, along with the water, I spent time with three magnificent trees. When I made my brunch, one of the fresh eggs I got at the last farm that hosted me had a double yolk, so I ended up with three. And three more Harvest Host locations approved my reservation requests – two breweries and a family-owned bar. I still have my fridge to contend with, but it’s been a good few days in a row. And the next three will be at a home in Green Bay with its own little beach that I will enjoy when not running a handful of errands, and stocking up for going deeper into the wild in the Upper Peninsula. There are some host site I will try, along with national forests to explore until my skoolie event that begins on traditional Lughnasadh and will include the astrological Lughnasadh and a full moon.
