June 18: Rain and More Rain

Last night and today it’s been raining, so heavy that an hour and a half ago, I pulled off the road to wait it out. When it stops, I will pop into a grocery store for a bag of ice and a bit of food. I am still struggling with the fridge and using ice. An ICECO tech has been in touch and will replace the unit if it does not self-correct. I’m getting tired of bailing melted ice and condensation with a turkey baster, and stopping every other day for food. But … it’s only the fridge. Two years and two months ago, it was the fridge, the heater, not enough solar, a destination that was not what I wanted, and the planned future imploding.

I have no plans for where to go next, except to stay the night in an overflow parking lot near the river in Dubuque, Iowa. There I will start looking for Harvest Hosts, rest stops, and Cracker Barrels for tomorrow and then several days in the 90s.

I got in a short visit at the Field of Dreams movie site this afternoon, and another stop at a cemetery when it was only sprinkling. I also took a short detour to drive through Earlville in honor of my dad. (There is also an Estherville in Iowa, but I’d passed it long before I knew it existed.) I don’t remember this much rain being forecast.

Before I sleep, I hope to have forced myself to finish a book review of “Magick for Empaths” which is weeks late for PaganPages … and then brainstorm how I want to celebrate Juneteenth tomorrow, the summer solstice on Friday, and next week’s dark moon.
