September 20: My First Disbursed Camping
In mid afternoon, my new friend, Hailey, was still at work, so I gathered up what little sense of adventure I had and drove about an hour to Medicine Bow National Forest, Pole Mountain Area: A Land of Hidden Treasure. Then it was miles of driving on washboard and washed out dirt roads to get the last camping site in this place. (There is a tent a couple hundred feet further up the hill, but it’s out of sight behind a huge boulder.)
The views are spectacular. The rock formations. The valleys. The sun is setting and rain is in the forecast. Except for a few birds, some distant dogs, and an occasional vehicle, it’s totally silent. If only the sky was clear so the stars were visible. Well, maybe tomorrow night.
This place is grounding me, the rocks, the trees, the mountains. I have one bar but can’t do much with it, so I don’t know if this will post. I also don’t know if I’ll be able to connect with either of my covens tomorrow for the dark moon.
Monday I return to Cheyenne to see about getting my diesel heater fixed and my tire pressure monitoring system installed on Tuesday, just in time for night temperatures dropping into the 30s. I may come back out here again though. There’s many more camping opportunities a bit further west, including a saloon I want to visit.
Hailey repaired a bunch of my bracelets and necklaces, and made a whimsical holder for my reading glasses. We talked for hours over pizza. The more I get to know her, the more she reminds me of my younger self.
When I went into Walmart again last night, Deb again run me out. I told her all about what her restaurant recommendation led to, and we exchanged a hug. She also gave me another restaurant recommendation, so I’ll let you now if that leads to anything.
