September 3: Devils Tower
I stayed at a museum last night and toured it today. I get geeky with old stuff. Then today I drove to Devils Tower National Monument. I am glad I did. I understand why some 20 indigenous tribes consider it sacred. (I didn’t stress my knees by walking the 1.3 mile loop.) It rises 1,267 feet above the Belle Fourche River, and stands 867 feet from summit to base. It was the first national monument in the USA, established on September 24, 1906, by President Theodore Roosevelt. The monument's boundary encloses an area of 1,347 acres. Also known as Mato Tipila or Bear Lodge, it is a butte (an isolated hill with steep, often vertical sides and a small, relatively flat top) laccolithic (a type of igneous intrusion formed when magma forces its way up through the earth’s crust but cools and solidifies before reaching the surface. Laccoliths are distinguished from other igneous intrusions by their dome-shaped upper surface and level base.) located in the Bear Lodge Ranger District of the Black Hills in northeastern Wyoming … near Sundance and Hulett. (The pictures are from multiple sides.)
Returning to Karmalita at the visitor’s center, I got schooled by a park ranger who could have ticketed me for having bones, feathers, rocks, and other natural objects on my dashboard. None of those are allowed in national parks. It’s in the fine print. Along with pages of other rules I now need to go read. I’m grateful he was kind and informative – musta talked to me for half an hour. Now I know to cover all windows and cover or move natural objects that might be visible from the outside so rangers won’t have cause to search my vehicle.
Tomorrow night I will do a protection ritual for the flotilla headed for Gaza, and join a virtual gathering hosted by Rebecca Rose to introduce her coven that runs the dark half of every year. If you’d like to learn more, there’s a free 90-minute workshop September 4 at 7:30 ET where you will learn to “Chart Your Magic” … follow this link to register. https://www.rebeccaroseguidance.com/chart-your-magic?mc_cid=d645569c5c&mc_eid=46c0d9e209
