April 25: Thrifting Thrills

Jennifer, her friend Monica, and I thrifted until we could thrift no more. I limited my bargains to four long cotton dresses (one will be a nightgown), a journal, a basket to hold cat toys, the best headrest ever for use in the hammock, four scarves, and two items to pass along. Oh, but the treasures the others scored: a vintage silk beaded blouse to an adjustable dressmaker’s form to an altar to hang on a wall. The picture is of the three of us on the bus where we did a couple of tarot readings. And wouldn’t you know it, the three of cups showed up.

Scarves were the curtains on Karma’s windows. I got black out curtains for Karmalita, but I missed the whimsical riot of colors, so with a bit of encouragement, I have begun to hang them under the sink. It feels good.

I’ve been giving bus tours this past week to overnight hosts, people I met at the farmers market, and associates offering to bring out my groceries. One woman offered to let me park at her place anytime I wanted. I don’t want to lose her number. And I hope the restaurant worker who broke up with his girlfriend will not give up the dream of traveling in a skoolie.

If I can stick to my itinerary, I have tonight plus two more before I pull into my East Windsor summer site. It’s been 18 months. Too long.
