August 12: A Daze of Days
The days of summer are slipping by, punctuated by heat, rain, some appointments, beautiful sunsets, and more reading than I’ve done in years. (And the visits mentioned in the last post.) The travels I was planning to take to Vermont, New Hampshire, Niagra Falls, Massachusetts and even southern Connecticut have not happened, and I am having to admit that they may very well not happen. I have wanted to get off the road and as soon as I found a place to rent, I stopped traveling. I don’t even want to do errands. I still want to see my family and friends, I just don’t want to drive to do it. Not 400 miles one way, or 200, not even 64. I haven’t even driven over the bridge four miles away to meet up with someone on the other side of the river. If you are one of those on my long list, I regret that it may be a long while still.
Next week a friend is driving us to Pennsylvania to see the friend whose driveway I’m parked in still. The week after that I’m hoping to make it up to New Hampshire to visit Monica and see what’s in the two bins I left in her basement some four-plus years ago. Then I need to get serious about finding a 20-year-old all-wheel drive vehicle (let me know if you have on for sale) and begin packing up my stuff to get it off Karmalita so she can have new adventures with her new owner. (And to answer the next question … if I do decide to go back on the road, it will be in a van.)
